Re-write your somatic story through your nervous system

Most dis-ease did not appear out of nowhere or show up overnight and all have an emotional component that contributes to the cause. The combination of somatic light-touch therapy offers an integrative approach for physical and mental/emotional healing.

About

Squiggle line grn

I am a Certified Somatic Transforming Touch (TT) as well as a Reiki Master, bringing over a decade of experience in trauma informed somatic healing blended with energetic modalities and Somatic EMDR to my practice. My work is grounded in a deep belief in the transformative power of connecting with the body’s innate wisdom and the stories it carries. By accessing this wisdom, we create the possibility of shifting into a new, more empowered way of being.

While traditional talk therapy addresses the cognitive aspects of your story, there is also a vital component: the body’s primitive memory. These imprints, stored within us, profoundly influence our emotional and psychological well-being. It’s a privilege to guide you through this integrative approach, helping you unlock the body’s potential for healing and growth.

The Body's Main Purpose Is To Stay Alive

Through epigenetics, our ancestors’ responses to trauma influence our own gene expression, passing down a “survival playbook” through generations. This means that when an egg is fertilized, the resulting embryo inherits these survival traits from both parents. Some of these traits are active, while others remain dormant. They all shape how we respond to challenges and stress. This playbook informs our body how to respond to threat, though the threats they adjusted to are not threats in our current realities.

What Is Developmental Trauma?

Developmental trauma is nonverbal as it happens very early in life during our preverbal time (ages 0-3). We might be carrying our ancestors’ trauma or trauma that occurred while we were in our Mother’s womb, depending on her nervous system’s dysregulation. “We may have had a challenging birth experience. Trauma is held in a part of the nervous system that is not cognitive, (we don’t even know we have), so working with the body through supportive touch is needed for healing from developmental trauma. Developmental trauma can also be thought of as the hard things that happened to us as children without our receiving enough protection or support to heal from them. (C-section births, medical intervention as a child, and so on.) We will connect with your younger parts and bring in the safety and support needed for healing.

Survival Code

Imagine our nervous system as a piece of software. If we’re coded in the womb with survival strategies from our ancestors, we might be operating on outdated software. Just like an old iPhone struggles with outdated updates, our bodies can overreact to perceived threats that do not actually exist. Somatic Transforming Touch Therapy works to update and reprogram this old survival code, enhancing nervous system regulation and resilience.

My somatic work with Shanna has been an integral part of my healing journey. Shanna’s willingness to go at a pace that is comfortable and honoring of where I am at makes her a very special practitioner. She makes me feel grounded, safe, and heard. In turn, through these somatic sessions, I receive and embody more of this regulation and groundedness within my body. After a year and a half of receiving somatic sessions, I can truly say consistency and patience is key in this healing modality. Somatic works its own subtle magic … all you have to do is sit back and receive in order to realize you truly are healing from inside the body and out.

Being at college was very overwhelming. I had massive amounts of anxiety and I was forgetting everything I just learned or tried studying. I started working with Shanna and after each session felt more relaxed and capable of handling life. The work is subtle and has truly changed my life, not just with my classes, but also in my relationships and now I have hope for my future.

I have suffered from anxiety since I was in middle school and have done different types of therapy in the past to help me develop tools and coping skills. Working with Shanna made me realize that some of the ways I was coping with my anxiety or actually harming my long-term health Through Transforming Touch I feel much more calm and less anxious.
